Abstract

Resumo em Inglês: Objectives: The support to the presencial teaching is important to offer complementary study activities and educational materials used during the theoretical and practice classes. Besides, it allows varying the resources selected and certified by the faculty. In this work, it will be introduced the moodle platform (abbreviation for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) as an excellent option to offer the on line support to the presencial teaching and to follow the interactivity of the discipline participants with its offered materials. The results are based in the usage of the moodle platform for medicine students during the disciplines of Human Anatomy and Neuroanatomy. Methods and Results: The platform offers many pre-programmed and configurable options for the creation and management of a topic structured web site following the objectives or the schedule of the discipline. It’s possible to offer complementary sources and activities for studying in each topic. All the offered material is protected in safe environment. To access the web site, the students must be identified after enrolling in the platform and informing the password of the course. Within the many options of resources it is possible to offer didactic materials in any electronic format.(documents, presentations, videos and scripts) with or without encrypt restrictions for specific use permission. It is also possible to offer links to selected web sites as complementary references sources. Many offers of tasks and exercises can be supplied as pre-programmed activities directly in the platform or through complementary softwares like the program Hot Potatoes. The Hot Potatoes activities could be tests, multiple answer questions, gap-fill exercises, crosswords puzzles, pair association questions and mixed-up sentence exercises. Some of these activities about anatomic issues will be presented as examples. One of the advantages of hot potatoes activities is the immediate feed-back to the student after its execution and the results are quantified in order to allow them to be used as a part of the discipline evaluation system. Furthermore, the platform allows to configure a discussion forum of the discipline in which the questions and answers are shared between the faculty and all the students making easy the interactivity and the information exchange to clarify doubts during the study. The use of the site can be followed through reports of the course access, of topics, of resources or of activities, in a global way or individually, selecting the access of some determined students. Conclusions: The moodle platform has been demonstrated to be a efficient tool to interact with students, propitiating support to the presencial teaching in a dynamic and attractive way. The possibility to offer resources and complementary activities have been motivated the students and facilitated their involvement with lessons of Human Anatomy and Neuroanatomy.
