Abstract

Objectives: Understand through ultrasound imaging threshold anatomical and morphological variation of the stomatognathic system in individuals with neuromotor impaired, practitioners and non practitioners of physical activity. Materials and Methods: The study enrolled 20 male subjects, Group 1 (G1) 05 paraplegic athletics practitioners with age mean 31.08±8.36 years, Group 2 (G2) 05 paraplegic who do not practice physical activities with age mean 30.68±6.41 years and Group 3 (G3) 10 subjects without neuromotor impairment with age mean 32.05±9.41 years. These were submitted to an evaluation by ultrasound imaging for anatomical understanding of muscle thickness in the following clinical variables: Rest (RE) and Maximum Habitual Intercuspal (MHI). The muscles were: Right and Left Temporal (RT and LT) and Right and Left Masseter (RM and LM). For data collection, were used an ultrasound machine brand SonoSite Titan, nationalized with 56 mm linear transducer of 10 MHz and for statistical analysis were used the ANOVA test, using SPSS version 17.0. This project was approved under the rules of law 196/96 CNS, with protocol approval 13/2010 CEP. Results: The clinical condition of the rest in G1 in RM presented 1.166±0.228 cm, LM 1.042±0.214 cm, RT 0.710±0.085 cm, LT 0.590±0.096 cm. In the G2, the RM showed 1.252±0.169 cm, LM 1.118±0.150 cm, RT 0.622±0.095 cm and LT 0.680±0.079 cm. In G3 the RM presented 1.072±0.184 cm LM 1.088±0.175 cm, RT 0.641±0.063 cm, LT 0.618±0.068 cm. In the clinical condition of MHI, the G1 in RM showed 1.452±0.227 cm, LM 1.360±0.176 cm, RT 0.740±0.094 cm, LT 0.680±0.076 cm. In G2 the RM showed 1.516±0.184 cm, LM 1.374±0.203 cm, RT 0.768±0.080 cm, LT 0.776±0.058 cm. In G3 the RM presented 1.404±0.176 cm, LM 1.430±0.197 cm, RT 0.751±0.071 cm, LT 0.739±0.080 cm. Through the results showed no value statistical in variable with p value ≤ 0.05 between groups. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that there is a morphological variation of the stomatognathic system in individuals with neuromotor impairment, regardless of whether or not practice physical activity. This study serves as reference for the study of human anatomy determining the neuromotor impairment related to the lower quadrant, not directly infer the morphology and structural anatomy of muscles adjacent to the lesion, while contemplating this fact, the sport also has no implications in this context.

O G2 apresentou em MD 1,252±0,169 cm, ME 1,118±0,150 cm, TD 0,622±0,095 cm e TE 0,680±0,079 cm. O G3 apresentou em MD 1,072±0,184 cm, ME 1,088±0,175 cm, TD 0,641±0,063 cm, TE 0,618±0,068 cm. Na condição clínica de MIH, o G1 apresentou em MD 1,452±0,227 cm, ME 1,360±0,176 cm, TD 0,740±0,094 cm, TE 0,680±0,076 cm. O G2 apresentou em MD 1,516±0,184 cm, ME 1,374±0,203 cm, TD 0,768±0,080 cm, TE 0,776±0,058 cm. O G3 apresentou em MD 1,404±0,176 cm, ME 1,430±0,197 cm, TD 0,751±0,071 cm, TE 0,739±0,080 cm.
